Optimization of work processes in isolation business

In our company which is the g+h group our main business field is to realize industrial pipe isolation systems especially heat insulation, cold insulation, sound insulation and fire protection. Like in all parts of the industry also in the part our company is working with one of the main topics is to optimize the processes of the work. The key-tool for an optimization of work processes always has been the technology, so it should be possible to use future technology to also optimize the work at the isolation business. The main goal of optimization is the complete automation of work processes, so the technology would replace many people at work and some of them could fear losing their jobs.

But is future technology abled to replace human in isolation business?

A fact is that machines are abled to raise the quality and the speed of work. Machines have a much higher precision editing a component that leads to increase the quality of the finished work, which is important for example for welding high pressure pipes together. Many steps of the work, the mechanics do, have to be done by machines even according to the law because you can´t guarantee the necessary quality which is needed when you do these processes by hand. But not only at producing processes future technology can be helpful. Even in the development future technology can increase quality and speed of the work. There are many programs like CAD which help engineers to make their work much faster. And in future there is AI planned which is able to complete ideas and technical drawings automatically. Thereby this technology would be able to speed up the work process and decrease the possibility of failure or forgetting things. Furthermore, future technology can make the workplaces more save. Many employees, especially at the industrial isolation business, regularly have contact to hot pipes or toxic products. These employees can use future technology instead to let machines have the direct contact to dangerous places or products and do their work without endangering themselves. And there is another way to make the workplace more save or at least easier for the employees. There is the possibility to spare the employees with future technology. For example, there are robots which are supporting the human body when there is the task to carry heavy things. Such a technology also can be applied at isolation business. In this business there are many heavy parts you have to carry, like flanges or cast-iron pipes, while you isolate them. These tasks could be made by future technology, so the work is getting way easier and healthier.

But all these tasks future technology can do at the isolation business are to support human not to replace them.

Machines, also future technology, can’t adapt to the conditions of the different workplaces or changing situations. You always need someone who is steering the technology. Especially in the isolation business there is no mass production. Every assignment is different, so you always would have to build a new machine what wouldn’t be valuable. You also need some experience in many situations and you have to make decisions, machines, also future technology, can’t make.

In general, it is a fact that future technology will change the existing working processes for employees. There are many benefits, but you must pay attention that in the isolation business every workplace has different situations, so no robot is ever able to complete a task alone. Finally, you can say that in the future the technology will become more and more important but never will be able to replace human in isolation business.
